The best time for performing the Tulsi Vivah rituals is during the Dwij Muhurat or the Abhijit Muhurat, after sunrise on November 2.
Story Behind Tulsi Vivah
The story of Tulsi Vivah originates from ancient Hindu scriptures. According to legend, Tulsi was an incarnation of Goddess Vrinda, the devoted wife of the demon king Jalandhar.
Her devotion and chastity made Jalandhar invincible against the gods.
To defeat Jalandhar, Lord Vishnu took the form of her husband and broke her devotion unknowingly.
When Vrinda realized the truth, she cursed Lord Vishnu to turn into a black stone and later immolated herself. From her ashes, the Tulsi plant emerged.
To console her, Lord Vishnu promised to marry her every year in the form of Shaligram, and that day came to be celebrated as Tulsi Vivah.

Tulsi Vivah Puja Vidhi describes the sacred steps followed to perform the divine wedding of Goddess Tulsi and Lord Shaligram. This ritual brings peace, prosperity, and happiness to the home.
1. On the day of Tulsi Vivah, the Tulsi plant is married to Lord Vishnu’s idol or the Shaligram stone.
2. Evening time is considered the most auspicious for performing Tulsi Vivah.
3. The family members performing the ceremony should wear new clothes on this day.
4. Those who are performing Kanyadaan should observe a fast until the marriage is completed.
5. Place the Tulsi plant on a wooden platform (chowki) in the courtyard.
6. You can also perform the Tulsi Vivah on the terrace if you wish.
7. Insert a sugarcane stick into the Tulsi pot’s soil and make a small wedding mandap (canopy) using a red cloth (chunri).
8. Place the Shaligram stone inside the Tulsi pot.
9. Apply turmeric (haldi) to both the Tulsi plant and Lord Shaligram.
10. Also apply turmeric paste to the sugarcane mandap.
11. Offer fruits and flowers to both deities.
12. For the Phere (sacred rounds), a man should hold Lord Shaligram and circle the Tulsi plant seven times.
13. During the rounds, sprinkle vermilion-colored rice grains over Lord Vishnu and Goddess Tulsi.
14. Then, light camphor in the puja plate and perform Aarti of both Tulsi Mata and Lord Shaligram.
15. After that, chant marriage blessings, offer bhog (food), and distribute prasad among all.
16. Finally, after completing the wedding ceremony, donate the Tulsi plant to a priest (pandit).
