Since the fast is kept on the day when the Chaturthi tithi is active, the festival will be observed on 10th October. The Krishna Paksha Chaturthi Tithi will begin at 10:54 PM on Thursday, 9th October and end at 7:38 PM on Friday, 10th October.

Purpose of Karwa Chauth

Rituals of Karwa Chauth

Sargi
The day begins early before sunrise when married women eat Sargi, a special meal prepared by their mothers-in-law.
It includes fruits, sweets, dry fruits, and other energy-rich foods to help them stay strong throughout the fast. After eating Sargi, the women begin their fast.
Fasting
From sunrise to moonrise, women observe a strict Nirjala Vrat, which means they do not eat or drink anything all day.
They spend the day praying, getting ready in traditional clothes, and applying mehndi on their hands as a symbol of love and happiness.
Puja
In the evening, women gather together for the Karwa Chauth Puja. They listen to the Karwa Chauth Katha, a story that explains the reason behind the fast and offer prayers to Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, and Karwa Mata for the long life and good health of their husbands.
Moon Sighting
The most awaited part of the day is the Moon Sighting. Once the moon appears, women look at it through a sieve or a dupatta and then look at their husbands.
