The Mythological Story Behind Kartik Month
Long ago, when the world was tormented by the demon Tarakasura, even the gods were powerless to stop his cruelty.
Tarakasura had received a boon that only the son of Lord Shiva could defeat him. But Lord Shiva, lost in deep meditation after Goddess Sati’s death, had withdrawn from worldly matters.
To save the universe, the gods prayed to Goddess Parvati, who was born again to reunite with Shiva. After years of devotion, Parvati’s love and penance melted Lord Shiva’s heart and their divine union gave birth to Lord Kartikeya.
As a child, Kartikeya showed extraordinary wisdom and strength. When he grew up, he was chosen as the commander of the divine army.
